How to Highlight Specific Districts in India

India’s geography is as diverse as it is vast. Whether you're mapping Haryana, Odisha, or specific districts like Kalahandi, the Region tool (how it works) makes precise selection easy: open it from the toolbar (or press H) and search for the state or country in the Highlight regions window.

1. Zoom and Granularity

The Region tool works at different levels of detail:

  • Country level: Search for India to highlight the whole country.
  • State level: Search for or click individual States like Rajasthan or Bihar (clicking on the map is a Pro option, and detailed regional borders are Pro as well).
  • District level: Districts are not available as ready-made regions, so use Draw an area from the Region menu, or the Shape tool (Circle or Rectangle), to outline districts like Kalahandi or areas within Kanpur.

2. Styling the Highlight

  • Color Choice: For educational projects, choose vibrant, contrasting colors for each state.
  • Opacity: Keep the fill opacity at about 50% so that the dense street networks and 3D city models are still identifiable.
  • Animation: Set the transition to Smooth and the region animation to a reveal effect such as Draw to show the state borders "painting" themselves.

3. Topographic Stories

India has dramatic topography, from the Himalayas to the Deccan Plateau.

  • Turn on 3D Terrain under View in the map controls.
  • Hold Right Click + Drag to pitch the map and see the realistic elevation data.
  • Use Route elements in Direct mode to trace the paths of the Ganges or the historical Silk Road branches.

To ensure your final 4K video (a Pro export option) is crisp and ready for broadcast or social media, always let the export's map prewarming step finish before exporting.
