Make an animated route map of your trip
This free animated route map maker turns a list of places into a short looping GIF: the line draws itself from stop to stop, a marker leads the way, and each place gets a clean label as the route reaches it. Search for up to eight cities or places, reorder them, and choose how each leg travels: a curved flight arc, real roads for a road trip, or a simple straight line. There's no account to create; the preview plays as soon as the page loads.
Use it for road trip recaps, travel reels and Stories, trip itineraries to share with friends, study-abroad or relocation posts, or a wedding and save-the-date map that shows how guests get to the venue. Pick 9:16 for Reels and TikTok, 1:1 for a square post, or 16:9 for YouTube, slides and blogs, then set a duration between 3 and 12 seconds and download.
When a GIF isn't enough, open the same route in Mapimator Studio with one click. Your stops and legs carry over, and the studio adds HD MP4 export up to 4K, 3D vehicles that ride the route, captions, and timing you can line up with music.
Frequently asked questions
Is the animated route map maker free? Do I need an account?
It's free and needs no account or signup. Add your stops, preview the animation, and download the GIF straight from your browser. GIFs carry a small mapimator.com watermark in the corner.
How long can the GIF be?
Pick any duration from 3 to 12 seconds. The GIF renders at 15 frames per second, 480 pixels wide, and loops forever. Each leg gets drawing time in proportion to its distance, with a minimum so short hops are still readable, and the finished route holds for a moment before the loop restarts.
Can I get an MP4 or HD version?
Yes. Click "Get it as an HD video" to open the same stops and legs in Mapimator Studio, where you can export MP4 up to 4K, add 3D vehicles and captions, and time the animation to music. The studio needs a free account.
What's the difference between Flight, Drive and Straight?
Flight draws the great-circle arc a plane would follow, which looks curved on a flat map. Drive follows real roads using the open-source OSRM router, and falls back to a straight line if no road route exists (for example across a sea). Straight draws a direct line between two stops.
Which aspect ratio should I use for Instagram or TikTok?
Use 9:16 for Instagram Reels, Stories and TikTok, 1:1 for square feed posts, and 16:9 for YouTube, slides, blogs and emails. The bright frame on the map shows exactly what the GIF will capture.
How many stops can I add?
Between 2 and 8 stops. Reorder them with the arrow buttons, remove any you don't need, and choose a different travel mode for each leg.
