Plan a road trip with multiple stops
This road trip planner maps a driving route through every stop on your list and tells you what the trip really adds up to: the total driving distance, the time behind the wheel, and the distance and drive time of each leg. Add up to ten cities, towns or sights, put them in order with the arrows, and the map redraws on real roads as you go. Switch between kilometers and miles at any time.
The per-leg breakdown is where a plan gets realistic. A coastal drive like San Francisco to Los Angeles by Highway 1 looks short on a map, but with Monterey, Big Sur and Santa Barbara on the way it's a long day or two of driving. Set how many hours you want to drive each day and the planner splits the route into driving days, ending each day at one of your stops wherever it can, so you can see where you'll spend each night.
When the plan is done, give the map a title and download it as a PNG for a group chat, a travel blog or the glovebox. Or open the same stops in Mapimator Studio, where the route draws itself stop by stop as an animated map video for a trip recap, a reel or a travel vlog intro.
Frequently asked questions
How do I plan a road trip with multiple stops?
Search for each place in the order you'll visit it, up to 10 stops. The planner routes every leg on real roads and shows the distance and drive time between each pair of stops, plus the trip total. Use the arrows to reorder stops and see how the totals change.
Where do the driving routes and times come from?
Routes come from OSRM, an open-source routing engine running on OpenStreetMap road data. Drive times assume typical speeds on each road type with no traffic, breaks or fuel stops, so treat them as a minimum and add 10–20% for a realistic day.
How many days will my road trip take?
Enter how many hours you're happy to drive per day and the planner splits the trip into driving days. It ends each day at one of your stops when it can, allowing up to 10% over your limit rather than stopping just short of town, and gives legs longer than a day a night en route.
What happens if a leg can't be driven?
If there's no road route between two stops (an island without a car ferry in the data, say, or a point out at sea), that leg is drawn as a dashed straight line, clearly labelled, and left out of the driving distance and time so the totals stay honest.
Can I download or share my road trip map?
Yes. Give the map a title and download it as a high-resolution PNG with your stops, total distance, drive time and number of days on it. To turn the trip into an animated video, open it in Mapimator Studio with one click.
